# Reuse Payment Methods

Allow your customers to reuse their saved payment methods in Hosted Checkout.

Hosted Checkout allows customers to reuse their saved EBT payment methods for faster PIN capture. Unlike Fully Hosted Checkout, Hosted Checkout does not create or manage payment methods directly. You create and store payment method references via the Forage API.

> Hosted Checkout only supports EBT payment methods (SNAP and EBT Cash). Credit/debit card is not supported.

## Reuse EBT payment methods

When you create a Payment Method via the Forage API, the `ref` field is reusable. You store this reference in your application's database and use it when creating subsequent orders for the same customer.

## How it works

* [Create a Payment Method via the Forage API](https://docs.joinforage.app/reference/create-payment-method) when the customer first adds their EBT card.
* Store the `ref` (payment method ref) (e.g., `ac47392xb2`) in your customer database.

### Balance check

**To perform a balance check:**

1. [Create a Balance Session via the Forage API](https://docs.joinforage.app/reference/create-custom-balance-check-session). Pass the stored payment method ref as the `payment_method` field in the payload of the request.
2. Redirect to the `redirect_url` that comes in the response of the previous API call.
3. The customer enters their PIN to check their balance.

The customer's EBT balance is updated on the payment method and they are redirected to the `success_url` you passed when creating the Balance Session.

### Process a payment

**To process a payment:**

1. [Create a Capture Session via the Forage API](https://docs.joinforage.app/reference/create-capture-session). Pass the stored payment method ref in the `payment_method` field of the `payment_details` object.
2. Redirect to the `redirect_url` that comes in the response of the previous API call.
3. The customer enters their PIN to process the payment.

The payment is processed and the order is completed. The customer is redirected to the `success_url` you passed when creating the Capture Session.
